Day 1: 28.03.2023

We started this course with an introduction from Joelle about the expectation of this course. She showed us some interesting case studies, one of these examples being an article about how Nestlé exploits indigenous communities. We had some discussion rounds about these studies and talked about how we could chance these societal constructs.

After lunch, we started to build groups. For this, everyone had to write their interests on a post-it note. We clustered the notes, and this is how our group came to be. Every one of our group was interested in the topic of social changes. Our post-it notes had the words neurodiversity, elderly people, social isolation and loneliness on them. So it was quite clear from the beginning, that we want to impact the social lives of people, to increase their life quality.

After we formed the group, we went to Mehrspur and had a very long and open discussion about all these different topics. We realised, that the topic of not being able to speak up about our needs or our opinions affects all of us, thats how we decided on the topic of encuraging people to speak up. We started to create a miro board and organize our topics.

Day 2: 29.03.2023

On wednesday, Nicole gave us some inputs about ethnography and also some techniques, that we can use to get some information about our topic. After her input, we sat down and talked about our own experiences and situations, where we couldn’t speak up and what the reasons where for that. We decided to do interviews with people and formed the questions, that we wanted to ask.

Since the weather was nice that day, we decided to go on a walk along the Limmat, and maybe gather some inspiration. We spoke alot about how the system is involved in us not speaking up and how different life experiences and backgrounds behave differently from each other. It was such a nice conversation, because everyone of us opened up. We were all actively listening and speaking and exchanging experiences with each other.

This is the route we walked:

Day 3: 30.03.2023

This day, we decided to interview a lot of people in toni, to gather some insights. Jeanne found the curage to go first and even asked people, if she could record their answers, and their reasons why they cannot speak up. She cut all the videos together and we integrated the video into our first presentation about our project. Over all, we got positive feedback about our project idea and also got some insightful inputs on how we should go on from that point.

Day 4: 31.03.2023

This day, we had to do a overall presentation about our week, our insights, reflections and our field studies. Jeanne and I were sick, that’s why Lu and Jin did the presentation, which went very well, acording to Lu.

Day 5: Sunday, 02.04.2023

This day, we notet all the inputs gathered from field research on either notion or miro, so that we can use the information for the clustering.
